Spring is such a great time of year – the green shoots peek out from the semi-frozen earth, and we know that in a few short weeks we’ll be surrounded by blossoms. This year, spring arrives with its usual promise amid significant challenges and chaos in our country. Those winds may be blowing hard in Washington, but in Denver we’re focusing on what we can grow and nurture here at home.
Homegrown talent – it’s the heart of why we do what we do at Prosperity Denver Fund. Korrine Salas Young, our Director of Programs, and I had the chance to talk with a young woman named Jasmin at a recent event hosted by HighView. HighView calls itself a “Student Accelerator Program” helping motivated students from low-income backgrounds to succeed in college and launch into transformative careers.
Jasmin is on the verge of graduating from the University of Denver with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accountancy. This May, she starts a career-track position with PricewaterhouseCoopers. You can read more of Jasmin’s story here.
What a gift it was to experience the joy in Jasmin’s eyes when she told us that night about her budding career. As we look forward to our upcoming spring distribution cycle – through which we’ll fund at least four times as many partner organizations as in past spring distributions – it’s fulfilling to know that the taxpayers of Denver are helping fuel thousands of such promising futures.
Happy spring,
Rebecca Arno
